US equity index futures point to weak opening

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The major equity index futures in the US indicate the indices are likely to open sharp lower following a weak closing on Friday.

At the time of writing, the Dow futures were down 200 points or 1.25%. The S&P 500 futures were down 23 points or 1.25% as well. Nasdaq futures were down 2%.

Across the pond, the major European indices have extended losses to trade 2% lower. The pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 index was down 2.4%.

The economic calendar is empty; hence there is very little scope for a sharp rebound by closing.
