US stocks close lower

FXStreet (Córdoba) - US stocks ended Thursday with small losses but recovered from session lows, putting the main Wall Street indexes on track for a weekly fall.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 36.87, or 0.2%, to 18,126.12. The S&P 500 fell 2.69, or 0.13%, to 2,120.79. The Nasdaq Composite Index declined 8.62, or 0.17%, to 5,097.98.

The Dow is down 0.6% and the S&P 500 fell 0.3% respectively so far in the week.

Lack of progress in Greek negotiations, mixed US data and prospects the Fed could hike rates for the first time since 2006 weighed on stocks.

On the data front, initial jobless claims rose by 7,000 to a seasonally adjusted 282,000 in the latest week, above the expected 270,000 expected. Meanwhile, pending home sales for April rose 3.4% to its highest level in 9 years.

Attention now turns to US GDP revision to be released on Friday, which is expected to show a downward revision to -1.0% from +0.2% previously estimated.
